Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
The UCSF IRB recognizes the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in research practices and the need to proactively address these issues. The IRB is committed to promoting DEIA in research practices. To advance the IRB’s commitment to DEIA, the DEIA IRB working group was formed to help ensure that research conducted at UCSF is inclusive, respectful, and impactful for all populations.
DEIA IRB Working Group completed initiatives:
- Option for study teams to translate their own documents for greater than minimal risk studies by using a qualified translator
- Priority review of Modification Forms submitting only translated documents and certifications
- Ability to pay a participant more for extra time spent for a research visit or other research activity (e.g., interpreter services used)
- Equitable Language Awareness in ICFs and recruitment materials
- Accessibility information added to Outcome Letters
- The UCSF IRB strongly encourages enrollment of people with disabilities. Please review the Participant Accessibility Guidelines, prepared by the UCSF Office of Disability Access and Inclusion. After reviewing the guidelines, if you have specific questions about accommodations, please submit a consultation request to UCSF CTSI Consultation Services.
